question

What modulates our Sun? The majority of science work on the principle that the Sun is self modulating and each solar cycle is a product of a random number generator. There are others that suspect the Sun is modulated by the planets with a special emphasis on Uranus & Neptune. Thanks to Carl Smith who has recently left us we have new knowledge that significantly adds to Jose, Landscheidt & CharvĂ tovĂ 's work.

SDO Sunspot

The end of the spotless run today. Two regions appearing but only one making the grade (1243 missing out at 323 pixels :). The pipeline looks weak but there are two areas close to the equator on the way.

Day seven spotless for June with the Sun being an almost carbon copy of yesterday. Locarno (SIDC ref station) yesterday recorded a raw value of 45, Wolf would have recorded zero as we did showing the distortion of records that occurs during a solar grand minimum. F10.7 flux falling below 90.

Three groups of specks that will be counted by others not making the grade today. The specks were just visible on my 40mm & 80mm telescopes but definition of penumbra was far from possible. Will we achieve over 6 days spotless for June?

Today is spotless and is the 5th spotless day for June, but there are still 3 days remaining. The June results will be very interesting as the real weight of the Landscheidt Minimum begins to take hold. The F10.7 values also looking weak.
